American Apparel model?

I decided I will become an American Apparel model, although lately I have been hearing awful stuff about the brand and about it’s founder, Dov Charney. Like : “They have great stuff, but the price is not so great for what it is” or “the owner of American Apparel is a sleazy mother f***er” or “They are going doooown!” or “they never pay their models”. Now I do agree with some of this, like the prices, they should be cheaper AND the models SHOULD GET PAID considering they are on billboards and magazines and on-line everywhere. I know it’s exposure for them, but that kind of exposure should be paid.

So Dov Charney: do you want a hot latin petite model for your American Apparel ads? Well here I am, BUT don’t think I will do you any “special favors” because i’m not that kind of girl AND you will have to pay me for the photo shoot.

A snowbird in Nicaragua

Winters are rough in NYC (I’m so glad it’s finally over this year!) Miami Beach is awesome when in season, but been there, done that, loved it, but always need a new “challenge” in my life. How about going home HOME? Like home where I grew up and where my parents and where my whole blood family lives and is from? Home where all my middle and high school friends are grown up, married with children and have stable predictable lives. THE central american country that I can call MY HOME and where I have not lived at for a longer period of 2 months since I was 17 years old. That place where people can’t live without thier maids, chauffer, gardner, guard, nannies, steaks, rum, and mistresses YET it’s the 2nd poorest country in the western hemisphere. Where time stands still, yet young women dress like old ladies and fashion is hardly possible. Yes, that is my HOME and I am me because of that place. My sense of humor and a lot of my thought process is influenced by my Home: Nicaragua.
“Ok… DONE! I’m spending winter where it’s not winter and I can spend a lot of time in beautiful sunny solitary beaches. I’m going home and see what I learn about mysel!” And so I did for the last 6 months and it sure is a rare and beautiful funny little country I would recommend the world to go see despite its political absurdity (political people in Nica are a joke! Nothing to be afraid of there. No offense to my friends’ parents who run the cabinet, but it’s the truth). After being in NYC surrounded by those crowded noisy streets in its jungle of buildings with so many people running around you in this fast and dirty rat race, Nicaragua was a sanctuary! Time, space, and natural beauty is endless in this green virgin jungle. The world today is fighting for global warming to maintain and be able to see one day a place like Nicaragua, my home.

Manhattan apartment – Crazy Landlord

I found this amazing first floor walk up apartment located in Herald Square. Apartment is furnished and has a cute lil’ chimney that works, hard wood floors, high ceilings, small kitchen AND best of all, it has an Illy espresso machine (I’ve always wanted one) – it’s considered to be a 1 bedroom converted apartment, which means it is a one bedroom apartment where part of the living room had a wall built in to form another bedroom, but you can’t even tell, and as long as I am living in Manhattan and NOT in Brooklyn (no offense to people who lived in Brooklyn, I also lived there and it’s nice and hip, but you gotta admit the commute sucks!).

HOWEVER, there is a catch to renting this wonderful cute affordable Manhattan apartment! Tell me if this is weird or not because I did find this on Craig’s List: my landlord, an italian decent, tall, handsome, BIG man in his early 40′s which claims he is a movie producer, asked me to put picture frames on the chimney of him and some kids, (I think the kids are his, although he saids they are his nephews) and old black and white photographs of his mother and father. I put them away once because I think picture frames on the chimney is a bit cheesy, for it’s just not my style, but he came in to fix the cable and he insisted I put them up which I told him I thought it was strange, but “oh well” I thought to myself “you get for what you pay for”!

Oh, and another weird thing about him is that he said I wasn’t allowed to bring guys into the apartment – LOL – WIERDO! For me it’s simple, I’ll just tell him “YES” to his request, but at the end of the day, I do whatever I want! HeeeHeee (witch cackle)

A DO or a DON’T?

An elegant, classy, attractive japanese business lady in her mid 30′s walked into Variazione with 2 of her young assistants. There was a vibe of fear in the air, as if this woman meant business and nothing else . She walked around the store and looked at our pieces as if they were filthy rags and thought I was ridiculous when I offered her a fitting room. Nonetheless, her scared little assistant picked out some dresses and had them approved by her boss. When it came to purchasing the dresses, I noticed she had very ”artistic” or “creative” finger nails! (gels) They looked so cool on her and she didn’t look chongalicious at all! I started to wonder if I could pull off these type of nails OR would I look ghetto since I was latin and not japanese.

What do you think? Is it a do or a don’t? Could I pull off some nails that had rhinestones or a cool unique design? Most of my friends in Facebook say it’s a DON’T. Please tell me! Because sometimes I want to be too unique…

Long time no write…

It’s been a long time since I wrote my last entry. I was in Miami the last time I updated my blog, but a lot has changed since then, like I moved back to New York City, I still haven’t won the jackpot in the lotto, I moved to Manhattan as opposed to Brooklyn, and my boyfriend doesn’t pay for anything of mine because I finally got a job at a boutique.

Being a true New Yorker means you have shopped at the store I work at: Variazione. If you are one, then you would know this store because the crazy owners own 12-15 stores downtown, like Soho and West Village and some stores on the upper East Side. Moreover, they have been in business for 15 years, and they do pick out a lot cute knock-offs.

It’s hard to work at this store because the owners are WEIRD and CRAZY and the hours are long, so it’s hard to go to my auditions. I’m going to some castings and auditions here and there, but it’s really ok because this job is just temporary AND I’m used to having crazy people around me and as long as I get paid to settle into NYC, i’m happy! Besides, working at Variazione has inspired me to create my own fashion tab on Beforemybigbreak blog, so check it out!

Tonight the grass is greener in New York

It’s 2:28am, friday night and i’m in my Miami Beach home, laying down on my bed in the middle of the dark, looking at my fellow actor’s FaceBook profiles wondering what type of work or project they are working on. I see my friend Celia’s profile – she is a young, slim, tall, asian actress/model with short, spiky, black, hair with an androgynous look to her. Most of her poses involve her twisting her tongue with her mouth wide open that show this special tongue trick of hers. Her outfits are unisex, meaning, she barely wears any dresses. She is a cool chick and full of energy. “How couldn’t she have the energy if she lives in New York City” I’m telling myself. I check my phone and it’s 2:40am by now; no missed calls, no text messages. “Hmmmm… why would I have a missed call or text message from my lover if he is out in New York having a good time.” I think to myself AND what am I doing? I’m thinking about New York and everything I could possibly be doing if I was up there. I miss going to all of these auditions, casting calls, The Manhattan Monologue Slam, and acting seminars which I actually hosted a couple of them. “Who was I and where have I been this whole past year?” I’m beating myself up with the thought although I know exactly where I was and with who and the more I think about it, the more I think I became the person I didn’t want to become: the girl with the “ideal” boyfriend.

After auditioning for Model Latina: NOT GOOD, in a way. Lets just say that now I need PLAN E, since plan B, C, and D have all failed. Ahhhh … it’s their loss AND I didn’t want to do reality tv with 15 other girls anyway. I was already going crazy with a 19 year old girl in the casting room which wouldn’t stop talking about all the producers she knew, how tall she was, and how many modeling gigs she had racked up in her life. Truth is she would have been perfect for the show because she had fake contact lenses, a ton of make-up, and cankles! The show needs some losers… luckily i’m not one of them.

The show does NOT have a height requirement like America’s Next Top Model, nor a neutral perfect sounding spanish like Telemundo’s soap operas requires of me – How perfect does this show sound for me?!
